Introduction

Purpose

The Synthetic Environment Data Representation and Interchange Specification (SEDRIS) is a system for maintaining data about synthetic and natural environments including terrain, oceanographic, atmospheric, and near space data. SEDRIS includes an application programmer interface which allows a variety of proprietary systems to consistently interchange and interoperate with the data. SEDRIS may be used in a variety of application areas such as modeling and simulation, engineering and scientific visualization, multimedia presentations, entertainment and educational titles, and shared virtual worlds.

Access to the information stored in a SEDRIS data set is through an application programmer interface (API).  The abstract specification of this API is defined in ISO/IEC 18023-1. Each part of ISO/IEC 18024 defines the binding of that abstract specification to a particular programming language. The purpose of this document is to define a standard binding for the C computer programming language.
