The Foreword provides background on the standards process for the SEDRIS standard. The Introduction describes the purpose, design criteria, and characteristics of this International Standard. The following clauses define this International Standard.:

1.      Scope defines the problem area that this International Standard addresses.

2.      Normative references lists the normative references.

3.      Definitions defines the terms used within this International Standard.

4.      Concepts describes various fundamentals of this International Standard.

5.      Fundamental data types defines the abstract data types used by this International Standard.

6.      DRM Class definitions defines the classes of objects supported by this International Standard.

7.      Abstract API defines the abstract functions used by this International Standard to access data.

8.      Conformance specifies the criteria by which implementations of this International Standard can claim conformance.

There are several annexes included in this International Standard:

A.     Formal grammar  shows the relationships between all SEDRIS objects.

B.     Example transmittal contains a simple transmittal to demonstrate the use of SEDRIS technology.
