ISO/IEC 18023-1 (Information technology -- Computer graphics and image processing -- Synthetic Environment Data Representation and Interchange Specification, Part 1: Functional specification) includes the SEDRIS data representation model (DRM). The DRM is a data model that addresses the representation of information entities rather than environmental concepts. A separate mechanism is required to denote what environmental concept a DRM information object, or set of information objects, is intended to represent. EDCS labels and EDCS codes provide the necessary denotation of these environmental concepts. Therefore, ISO/IEC 18023-1 normatively references this International Standard.
